Alan and Debbie are big fans of new build houses, having lived in no fewer than four before landing on their perfect home in Orford. With a wide range of experiences to draw on, from good to disastrous, they knew what to look out for and had strict criteria to adhere to.
“We had the new build home from hell in Brighton, where we had to put right all the mistakes of the builder. It was extremely costly and stressful,” commented Alan. “As a result, we were determined to find a developer with a good reputation that put quality over quantity.”
The couple weren’t downsizing – they had done that several years’ previously. The move was motivated by a desire to move from a busy town-centre house, to somewhere more tranquil.
The fact that they ended up in a detached 3-bedroom house by the sea, was something of a surprise, as they initially set out to find a bungalow. However, the layout is perfect for futureproofing, with its downstairs ensuite bedroom, as well as three further bedrooms upstairs. The couple were able to adapt their kitchen to add in a new dresser unit and were pleased that every detail had been thought of – even fixing their mirrors.

“The main difference between our Hartog Hutton home, compared to other new build houses, is the amount of space. The rooms are the perfect size for us to enjoy on our own or when entertaining. We’ve been here for over a year and every day I say how much I love this house,” said Debbie.
In their retirement Debbie and Alan are still very fit and active, so they wanted to live in a place with lots of good walks and activities. Orford has some of the most stunning scenery in Suffolk, and with a footpath directly next to Chantry Meadows, it couldn’t be easier to make the most of the this.
Being located in a vibrant village, with various activities on offer, has been a great way to meet other locals and become part of the community.
Asked whether they would recommend a Hartog Hutton home, their answer was a resounding yes!
Each Hartog Hutton home is designed to suit the location and maximise space.
